diy Lilac Drops lip balm

Spring is a difficult time of the year for many people. Others suffer from any kind of allergy that exists and I do have a problem with dehydration on my lips. This means that I am always with a lip balm in my hand. Lately my lips have gotten worse as due to African dust and pollen, they become dehydrated and chapped more than ever. That's why today, we will also make a peeling balm with sugar in order to have soft and hydrated lips.
In the recipe I used rice, argan and babassu oils because they are rich in vitamin E and phytosterols and are valuable for skin diseases, castor oil and cocoa butter because they have remarkable anti-inflammatory properties, hyaluronic acid and liquid lecithin so the lips become soft and supple. I also added beeswax because it creates a protective film helping the lips to hydrate, while I used cetyl alcohol to stabilize the balm and homogenize the oils with hyaluronic acid.

- mini stainless steel hand whisker
- high accuracy digital scale
- lip balm tubes, tins or jars

  • Firstly, you must sterilize tools, equipment, work surface and wear your gloves. This job might be easy but we don’t want to be dirty.
  • Prepare a water bath, by filling a heat- proof saucepan 1/3 full of water and place it to low heat. Weigh all the ingredients. Add the butter, the oils and the waxes into the beaker. Place it in your prepared water bath to melt everything through. Remove the beaker from the water bath and dry it off with a towel. Stir with a stainless whisk to incorporate. Add the rest of your ingredients and stir gently.
  • Pour the balm into tubes or tins and leave it to solidify before capping. Enjoy!

Lilac Drops Peeling Lip balm
formula for 50 g | 1.76 oz

10 g | 0.35 oz cocoa butter
6,2 g | 0.219 oz babassu oil
4,5 g | 0,159 oz plum kernel oil
4 g | 0.14 oz beeswax
0,3 g | 0,010 oz vitamin E
25 g | 0.88 oz sugar

  • In a beaker, pour the cocoa butter, the babassu oil and the beeswax. Place it in a water bath over low heat and wait for them to melt. Remove the pan from the heat and add the plum kernel oil and vitamin E.
  • Place the beaker in a bowl of cold water to cool down and stir a little. I let my mixture to solidify a bit until it becomes creamy and then I add the sugar (because as long as the mixture is liquid, the sugar sits on the bottom). Stir and transfer the scrub into tins or jars and leave it to cool down completely before capping.
