Solid hair care products have proven to be a treasure as they are practical to transport but also very easy for even a beginner to make. Not only do they nourish and moisturize the hair, but I think you also save money, as the cost of their preparation is small and each piece lasts for much longer than a bottle of commercial conditioner. They are ideal for your travel by plane and using them you reduce your environment trace as you don’t have to use any package.
Following on from the Lilac Drops beauty line, today we will make a solid hair conditioner with ingredients that are really beneficial for the hair and actually work. I believe this conditioner will become your new favorite as it leaves hair soft and healthy, easy to comb and silky.

3 g | 0.11 oz dimethicone
3 g | 0.11 oz cyclomethicone
2 g | 0.07 oz pea extract [Pisum Sativum (Pea) Sprout Extract]
0,5 g | 0.02 oz vitamin F
0,5 g | 0.02 oz vitamin E
1 g | 0.04 oz broad spectrum preservative
1 g | 0.04 oz lilac f.o.
purple clay (optional; I eyeballed it only because I wanted to add some colour to my bar)
- Before start making the conditioner, sanitize tools, containers, work surface and wear gloves.
- In a beaker add the ingredients of the heated phase (phase A) and place it in a water bath with a mild fire to fully melt. Be careful; it’ s difficult to melt the BTM.
- In another beaker add the cool down phase (phase B) ingredients, mix thoroughly and leave aside.
- When the heated phase ingredients melt, remove the beaker from the heat and stir. Once the mixture reaches 50 degrees Celsius, add the cool down phase ingredients and stir well. Pour the mixture into a mold and wait for it to cool down and solidify. I usually put it in the fridge for an hour and then pop it out of the mold. Leave the conditioner fully set up for 24 hours before use.
To use, simply wet the bar and run it gently over your hair. You can also apply the conditioner to your hands first and then run through your hair or add only where the conditioner is needed.
If you have fine or oily hair you can use the conditioner first and then shampoo your hair afterwards.
For an intense treatment, add the conditioner, wrap your head in a warm t- shirt (not towel) and leave on for 15-20 minutes. After conditioning make sure to rinse your hair completely and finish with a cool rinse.
- BTMS is a herbal agent that comes from the natural colza oil which softens and smoothes the hair while cetyl alcohol is also a softening factor.
- Sal butter nourishes, softens and restores vitality and nourishment to the hair. It is ideal for dry or frizzy hair that is difficult to untangle. Babassu oil is rich in lauric acid like coconut oil, strengthens damaged hair and forms a protective film preventing dehydration while rocket oil is excellent for strengthening and growing hair, fights hair loss. Ideal for damaged, dry, brittle, curly and frizzy hair without volume.
- Abysoft is an ester of Abyssinian oil which creates a protective film on the hair preventing moisture loss and has emollient properties, pea extract restores hair vitality and fights hair loss, while vitamins E and F work synergistically and work against hair breakage.
- A nice ingredient which is used to give shine and soft texture to the hair is dimethicone. It covers the pores of the hair in order not to absorb excess moisture but at the same time to retain in it the natural moisture. In this way it gives softness to the hair and acts as a conditioning agent- the hair doesn't make knots and is combed much easier while in combination with another ingredient, cyclomethicone, the appearance of split ends is prevented.
