diy Opora Rays shampoo & conditioner bars

I made these solid shampoos and conditioners for Halloween about a month ago, but unfortunately I could’nt find any time to post. That's why my photos today are kind of delayed. Of course, it doesn’t matter, nothing can stop you from making them now. Better late than never, they say. Because of that, today I will give to you 2 recipes together for shampoo and conditioner bars as well.
This beautiful shampoo gives rich foam and smells great while you can also use it as a body wash bar, thus reducing the number of products in your bathroom. For its production, mild foaming agents are mixed by hand with vegetable oils, butters and beneficial herbs which release all their valuable properties during application, leaving the scalp hydrated and rejuvenated. It respects the natural flora of the scalp and is designed to last longer than classic liquid shampoos.
But we are not finished here, you should also learn about the hair conditioner of the Opora Rays beauty line, which untangles and softens your hair easily and quickly without weighing it down, being a shield of protection against environmental stressors.

how to sterilise clays or powders before using them in your cosmetics

To sterilize your powders or clays and make sure that the material you use in your cosmetics is safe for your skin, you'll need:

- clay or powder of your choice
- sterilised baking tray

Pour the clay or powder into the baking tray (after you have sterilized it) and spread the material all over the surface of the tray. Place the tray in a preheated oven at 150 degrees Celsius and bake for 1.5 hours. Remove the tray from the oven and allow the clay or the powder to cool down. Put it in a sterilised container. Ensure that the clay or the powder is completely cool before closing the container.

Ιn a beaker, pour the Phase A ingredients and prepare a water-bath (bain-marie) by filling a heat- proof saucepan, 1/3 full of water. Place the beaker into the water-bath.

In a bowl, carefully add the Phase B ingredients and mix with a stainless whisker very gently to avoid dusting. Add the Phase C ingredients and stir again with your hands this time. Pour the Phase A ingredients (after they have melted well) and mix by hand until your mixture becomes a nice dough.

Press into mold and place it the refrigerator. Allow to cure for 2 to 4 hours. Unmold and let your shampoos dry for 24 hours.

  • Mango butter and pumpkin seed oil nourish the hair, restore its strength and shine while protecting it from dehydration.
  • Amla oil is actually the extract of Ayurvedic brahmi powder in castor oil. It stimulates the scalp as well as hair growth, while fighting hair loss. It brings volume, shine and vitality to the hair while protecting it.
  • BTMS is a conditioner and antistatic agent that enhances the softness of the hair.
  • SCI is a natural surfactant, a powdered palm kernel derivative and is combined with SCS which is a coconut oil-derived surfactant that allows the incorporation of vegetable oils or butters. CocoBetaine is also a mild surfactant derived from coconut oil and used as a foam enhancer.
  • The active ingredient of abysoft is an ester of Abyssinian oil which creates a protective film on the hair preventing moisture loss and has emollient properties. Silk powder offers a rich treatment for restructuring, hydration and protection of the hair while vitamin F gives shine and protects the hair from breaking the hair.
  • Coconut vinegar rejuvenates the natural pH of the hair while softening and beautifying it.

Broad spectrum preservative is necessary in every formulation, even if our product does not contain a water phase, from the moment it will be constantly in the wet environment of the bathroom. Remember that a product without a preservative can cause staph, skin diseases, blindness or even death.

Opora Rays Conditioner Bar
recipe for 100 g | 3.52 oz

phase a
40 g | 1.41 oz BTMS
20 g | 0.71 oz cetyl alcohol
14 g | 0.49 oz mango butter
5 g | 0.18 oz pumpkin seed oil
5 g | 0.18 oz amla oil

phase b
3 g | 0.11 oz dimethicone
3 g | 0.11 oz cyclomethicone
2 g | 0.07 oz marine collagen
2 g | 0.07 oz provitamin B5 (d- panthenol)
2,5 g | 0.09 oz vegetable glycerine
0,5 g | 0.02 oz vitamin E
1 g | 0.04 oz broad spectrum preservative
1 g | 0.04 oz Pumpkin Souffle f.o.

Before start making the conditioner, sanitise tools, containers, work surface and wear gloves.

In a beaker, add the ingredients of the heated phase and place in a water bath with a mild fire to fully melt. Be carefull: it’s difficult.
In another beaker, add the cool down phase ingredients, mix thoroughly and leave aside.

When the heated phase ingredients melt, remove the beaker from the heat and stir. Once the mixture reaches 50 degrees Celsius, add the cool down phase ingredients and stir well. Pour the mixture into a mold and wait for it to cool down and solidify. I usually put it in the fridge for an hour, and then pop it out of the mold. Leave your conditioner fully set up for 24 hours before use.

To use, simply wet the bar and run it gently over your hair. You can also apply the conditioner to your hands first and then run through your hair or add only where the conditioner is needed.
If you have fine or oily hair you can use the conditioner first and then shampoo your hair afterwards.
For an intense treatment, add the conditioner and leave on for 20 to 30 minutes. Do not wrap your hair with towel. After conditioning make sure to rinse your hair completely and finish with a cool rinse.

  • BTMS is a herbal agent that comes from the natural Colza oil which softens and smoothes the hair while cetyl alcohol is also a softening factor.
  • Vitamin E, panthenol and vegetable glycerin work synergistically and balance, offering hydration and softness to the hair, while marine collagen nourishes, rejuvenates and gives shine to the hair.
  • Dimethicone is used in order to give glow and soft texture to the hair. Silicone covers the "pores" of the hair so that it does not absorb excessive moisture but also maintains natural moisture inside. In this way the hair remains straight and does not "curl" so easily. At the same time it gives softness as it acts as a conditioning agent - the hair does not make "knots" and combing much easier while the Cyclomethicone component when used in hair care products, offers shine to the hair and prevents the occurrence of a split.
