diy Opora Rays body polish

It is a difficult week and you are definitely looking forward to a relaxing weekend and take time for yourself. You’ll watch your favourite series, you’ll dive into your book but you will also take care of your body. So I prepared a special product that is used for exfoliation and hydration at the same time and surely your mind goes to a typical scrub, but this time I’ll surprise you.

The beauty product that we will deal with today is called body polish and while most people think that it is synonymous with scrub, the beauty world comes to refute it. Body polish is a popular skin care therapy that it hydrates and exfoliates the skin making it feel like a facial, but for the entire body. It is usually combined with massage and helps the body absorb nutrients more easily and faster. It stimulates the formation of new cells while removes dirt and oil from the skin pores.
It is created from a wide range of ingredients, such as sugar, salt, coffee beans, etc., which are usually mixed with vegetable oils, active ingredients, essential oils and fragrances. Normally, it is applied and acts like a body mask, while usually it is wrapped with a cling film in the points of interest, in order for the ingredients to affect  on us.
The body scrub, on the other hand, aims at a deep exfoliation and cleansing, which is why it has a harder texture, we even remove it from us much faster than body polish.

how to sterilise clays or powders before using them in your cosmetics

To sterilize your powders or clays and make sure that the material you use in your cosmetics is safe for your skin, you'll need:
- clay or powder of your choice
- sterilised baking tray

Pour the clay or powder into the baking tray (after you have sterilized it) and spread the material all over the surface of the tray. Place the tray in a preheated oven at 150 degrees Celsius and bake for 1.5 hours. Remove the tray from the oven and allow the clay or the powder to cool down. Put it in a sterilised container. Ensure that the clay or the powder is completely cool before closing the container.

Opora Rays Body Polish
recipe for 100 g | 3.52 oz

20 g | 0.71 oz Kytherian rock sea salt
10 g | 0.35 oz Himalayan salt
20 g | 0.71 oz mango butter
10 g | 0.35 oz sweet almond oil
6 g | 0.21 oz plum kernel oil
5,5 g | 0.18 oz pumpkin seed oil
12 g | 0.42 oz emulsifying wax
15 g | 0.53 oz orange peel powder
1 g | 0.04 oz broad spectrum preservative
0,5 g | 0.02 oz vitamin E

Sterilize tools, equipment, work surface and wear your gloves. Weigh ingredients.

Prepare a water bath, by filling a heat- proof saucepan 1/3 full of water and place it to low heat. Add the butter, the emulsifying wax and the oils- EXCEPT plum kernel oil- in a beaker and place it in your prepared water bath to melt everything through. Remove the beaker from the water bath and dry it off with a towel.

Place all ingredients in a bowl and mix them. Transfer in containers.

Broad spectrum preservative is necessary in every formulation, even if our products doesn’t contain a water phase, from the moment it will be constantly in the wet environment of the bathroom. Remember that a product without a preserveative can cause staph, skin diseases, blindness or even death. Learn more, here.

how it works?

Apply on wet skin and make circular massage. After spreading the product, you'll notice that the polish changes consistency and emulsifies (turns into a milky lotion) on contact with water. If you wish, let it act as a body mask.

  • Kytherian rock sea salt removes accumulated pollutants and detoxifies the skin.
  • Mango butter is an excellent moisturizing agent as it penetrates the skin directly while sweet almond oil and pumpkin seed oil are particularly restorative for dry and sensitive skin.
  • Plum kernel oil is particularly rich in oleic (approximately 60%) and linoleic (approximately 25%) acids and vitamin E (a-tocopherol). It also contains beta-carotene and vitamin B. It is highly aromatic (a combination of almond and marzipan) and this allows us to prepare aromatic products without the addition of other fragrances or essential oils. That's why I added it at the end.
  • Orange peel powder removes dead cells and gives the skin a youthful and radiant appearance while the addition of vitamin E helps prevent the oxidation of the oils and butters of the formulation.
