diy Coco Choco body butter

Body butters are very popular at the moment as now is the time to prepare our skin for the cold winter days. They are creamy anhydrous products, rich in composition that do not even need a preservative, as they don’t come in contact with water.

Today we are going to make a body butter as a part of the Coco Choco project, but I decided not to whip it in order to look fluffy. Although the internet is full of beautiful jars of jam, garnished with fluffy body butters, I'll resist because I want its texture to be mostly creamy- it suits me way better when I apply it on my skin. However, you can whip the blend together once it begins cooling, using an electric whisk, in order to to give it a really nice mousse- like consistency.

Coco Choco Body Butter
recipe for 100 g | 3.5 oz

45 g | 1.6 oz unrefined cocoa butter
30 g | 1.1 oz shea butter
10 g | 0.35 oz monoi oil
10 g | 0.35 oz coconut oil
3 g | 0.11 oz olive squalene
1 g | 0.04 oz vitamin E
10 drops chocolate extract BIO
10 drops coconut extract BIO

Firstly, you must sterilize tools, equipment, work surface and wear your gloves.

Prepare a water bath, by filling a heat- proof saucepan 1/3 full of water and place it to low heat. Weigh all the ingredients. Add the butters and the oils into the beaker. Place it in your prepared water bath to melt everything through.

Remove the beaker from the water bath and dry it off with a towel. Stir with a stainless steel whisk to incorporate. Add vitamin E and stir thoroughly. Pour now the extracts and stir again.

Pour the butter into a jar and leave it to solidify before capping. As I wrote above, once the mixture has cooled (don’t let it go hard) you can whip it with an electric whisk to create a wonderful fluffy cream.

  • The cocoa butter I used, I made sure it was raw because it smells like chocolate and keeps all its valuable nutrients intact. The synergy with shea butter gives us a product that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin in the skin, while penetrating deeply keeping the skin soft without clogging pores.
  • Monoi oil contains the wonderful ingredients of the tropical flower Tiare (Tahitian gardenias) and has a particularly beneficial effect in cases of excessive dryness of the skin, while coconut oil along with olive squalene help restoring the natural pH of the skin.
  • Vitamin E has the role of antioxidant factor in our butter.
  • You can find the aromatic extracts here.
